Good Morning America (GMA) has launched a nation-wide grassroots initiative to help needy children around the country gain access to books via schools, libraries and community centers such as The Sister Power Organization Center, which is located in New York City’s Harlem community.
First Lady, Laura Bush, helped Good Morning America kick off the book drive and children from Sister Power’s after school literacy program, CLAP4CityKids, were invited to ABC Studios to appear live with the First Lady in a Q&A segment about the importance of reading and what it means to them to have access to books.
GMA has teamed up with First Book, a national nonprofit organization that gives children in need, the opportunity to own and read their first new books and help fill the nations book shelves so that every young child in America gain the opportunity fall in love with the world of reading.
Our children experienced a once in a lifetime encounter with First Lady, Lady Bush, who took pictures, autographed books, gave lots of hugs, and thanked them for doing a fantastic job!
