| The Sister Power Organization, Inc., partners with other institutions in order to build community and provide optimum services which help off-set the cost of purchasing materials, and hiring and training new staff to implement new programs and activities.
Partnerships with Cornell University Cooperative Extension Program and Health Plus afford Sister Power the opportunity to introduce girls to one hour hands-on nutrition workshops and age appropriate health education classes. Cornell University Cooperative Extension Program gives girls a chance to prepare, cook, and taste healthy fresh foods they make from scratch.
Additionally, girls learn: to plan a menu, food safety, the use of kitchen utensils, food groups, and how to make smart choices about food, and how to keep their bodies healthy through proper exercise. Health Plus promotes healthy living by engaging girls in classes that increase awareness about disease prevention and control. The weekly workshops are nearly one hour long and topics range from asthma, diabetes, and childhood obesity, to dental care, and personal hygiene. Other partners include: Girls, Incorporated, Mentoring Partnership of New York City, Big Brothers Big Sisters, CUNY Schools and Columbia University.
